By Nation Reporter Posted Sunday, March 6 2011 at 20:24 Source: Daily Nation The Ministry of Education is studying a proposal to donate Sh60,000 to needy schools for e-learning.
If approved, the proposal will benefit 20 schools in each constituency and will be the first step in rolling out e-learning in the newly created counties. “The amount of money might not be adequate but it would make a difference,” said assistant minister Calist Mwatela. Mr Mwatela said it was time schools and colleges focused on e-learning, given the growing importance of technology in the global education sector. The assistant minister said schools countrywide should try to acquire the digital content in the next 12 months. “We are looking forward to a time when all schools will have this digital content package to improve performance. “With this simplified version of e-learning, pupils in Standard Three can conceptualise the idea of e-learning and get interested in it. “Most learners do not learn effectively due to lack of interest,” said Mr Mwatela. The assistant minister was speaking last week at the Kenya Institute of Education where he assessed its capacity to roll out e-learning in schools. KIE has already produced digital content resource materials in a format accessible by devices such as television, radio, computers as well as mobile phones. KIE director Lydia Nzomo said the digital content resources were being rolled out in urban and rural schools. |
