The KPSA has realised the great potential for the expansion of private schools in Kenya. We are ready to work with the government as a true partner in the important task of expanding education opportunities, reducing overcrowding in public schools and reducing the Government expenditure on education.

Focus:
The focus of KPSA is to promote the relationship with the government, improve on service delivery and maximize on opportunities provided.  The Association has been involved in the following activities:

  • Proposed formulation of the Education Standards by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (currently underway);

  • Review and harmonization of the Education Sector Legal Framework. The Association has since presented its views to the Taskforce;

  • Formulation of a revolving fund to develop the private schools, especially targeting secondary schools. This is on-going.

Activities of the KPSA
1. Common examinations: - these are prepared at the national and branch level. The schools are able to gauge themselves. This is a way of saving money in buying examination papers from printers and improving exam quality.
2. Supplies to schools: - A procurement committee was formed in the year 2002 to negotiate prices with the suppliers/manufacturers of various materials, which the member schools need. The committee has so far negotiated for interest rates on loans for motor vehicles through NIC bank, stationery (exercise books, text books, office stationery) and foodstuffs.
3. Seminars/workshop for managers and proprietors are organised in the branches and at national level. Seminar for teachers are also organised at national and branch level.
4. Inter-branches sports meet: This is organised once after every two years. All the branches hold inter-schools sports meet annually in preparation for the national sports meet.
5. Branch SACC)’s: Several branches have started savings and Credit societies which will affiliate to the national level in the future. They are assisting the members to obtain loans at reasonable rates to develop their schools.
6. Conference and Exhibition: The Association prepares an annual conference and exhibition for the members and prospective members

Trips: To further enhance the provision of quality education, bi-annually the association organises trips to various countries for members to learn more about education provision in those countries i.e. UK, Malaysia.
Junior partners forum: Seminars and retreat for young school owners in preparation to heir their parents.
